Ross Hunt, CFP® — Founder & Lead Planner
Ross Hunt, CFP® has been guiding clients through major financial decisions since leg warmers were a thing and retirement planning was done on paper. Raised in Central Ohio after being born in Anaheim, CA, Ross earned his degree from Miami University (Oxford, OH) in 1981 and went on to complete graduate work in finance and marketing at The Ohio State University. He received his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation in 1986—making him a fiduciary before most people had heard the word.
Ross co-founded his first financial planning firm in 1982 and has been committed to values-based, client-first advising ever since. He believes good planning starts with listening, stays grounded in strategy, and always serves the client’s best interest—no sales pitch required.
In 2001, Ross met and married Mary (yes, that Mary), and together they launched Ross & Mary Hunt, Inc., which now serves as the implementation arm of their planning work. From the beginning, they’ve been united by a shared belief: clients deserve independent advice and a trusted relationship, not products and pressure.
By 2012, they co-founded RMH Advisors, LLC, a Registered Investment Advisory firm designed as a fee-only planning alternative for clients who want guidance without commissions or complexity. Together, Ross and Mary have built a highly personalized process focused on education, strategy, and long-term client relationships.
Over the years, Ross has been a member of the Ed Slott Elite IRA Advisor Group and a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his many years with the Downtown Columbus Rotary Club.
Ross and Mary live just north of San Diego in Murrieta, CA, where they’ve raised their two sons, Alexander and Samuel, and now enjoy their newest adventure: grandparenting, a role they cherish, even if it surprises people when they find out.
Ross is a planner by nature and a lifelong learner by choice. While his biking days are now behind him (he’s missing a leg, but not his sense of humor), he’s found new joy in numismatics, diving deep into the history and artistry of coins. He also enjoys golf, music, travel, and weekends spent with family, furry dogs included.
